ID Portfolio

***Note: This portfolio was last updated in late 2013 as I prepared to interview for the position I now hold, Instructional Design Librarian at the UAA/APU Consortium Library. I have done a great deal of work in this area since taking on this position and I look forward to having some time to update this page with some of that work.***

Welcome!

I’ve created this page to provide you with a one-stop location for you to view the aspects of my portfolio that are most relevant to instruction, instructional design, and instructional technology. You may also wish to view my resume tailored for an instructional design librarian position.

Units

Unit Created for Online Pedagogy
View the unit-sized lesson plan I created for my Online Pedagogy course (M.Ed.) here. The emphasis in this assignment was on unit planning, organization, and assessment. To that end, I linked to and embedded learning objects found elsewhere online rather than create my own.

Unit Created for Instructional Design
I created this unit plan for my Instructional Design course (M.Ed.). Unlike the unit linked above, this unit focuses more on the creation of the digital learning objects embedded within the unit, though assessment was still heavily emphasized.

Web Design

darcyhutchings.com
Created on WordPress with some hand-coded HTML elements. This page is a work in progress as it was initially created in May 2013 by combining my WordPress blog, a website I built during my MLIS program, and other web-based elements along with new content.

Unit Plan Sites for Online Pedagogy and Instructional Design
Each course required the creation of a website to deliver a unit plan. I created these using Google Sites.

Anarchy! LibGuide (Course Guide)
My first LibGuide created for my Library User Instruction Course (MLIS). The LibGuide was presented to Liz Dennison’s class and was used by several of the students in the course in the course of their research. It was created to stand alone and does not fit current Consortium Library guidelines for LibGuides.

Plagiarism Website
A website I created to support a plagiarism training workshop for Learning Resources Center writing tutors.

Website Usability Testing
As part of a group project (MLIS), I participated in the testing of a website’s usability. This link takes you to my former classmate’s web page where the study report is hosted. Use the tabs along the top to navigate through the report.

Tutorial Videos & Screencast Software

Search Term Video Lecture (Accessible)
Created using Camtasia in 2013 for my Instructional Design class (M.Ed.). This tutorial was created rather quickly, with my focus turned to my own learning and addressing the assignment requirements rather than polishing the finished product.

Boolean Operators
Created using Camtasia in 2013 for my Instructional Design class (M.Ed.). This tutorial was created rather quickly, with my focus turned to my own learning and addressing the assignment requirements rather than polishing the finished product.

Staff Training Videos
This series of 3 training videos were created and edited using an iPhone for my Media Design course (M.Ed.). They will be used as part of the training of new information clerks at the UAA Learning Resources Center.

Finding Books by Subject
Created using Camtasia in 2010 for my Library User Instruction course (MLIS), this tutorial video walks users through searching the now-retired Consortium Library OPAC by subject.

Wimba AppShare Training Module
Created as a group project for my Information Technologies class (MLIS), this tutorial video includes explicit student learning outcomes. This link takes you to our project page (hosted on my former classmate’s website). The video, made using Adobe Captivate, is linked at the bottom of the page. Completed in 2009, it was the first such video I ever made.

Audio Learning Objects

Audio Unit Introduction
Created for my Instructional Design course (M.Ed.).

Podcast Series
Created for my Web 2.0 Fundamentals course (M.Ed.)

Static Visual Objects

Photographs
Created for my Fundamentals of Media Design course (M.Ed.)

Exercises & Handouts

Exploring Sources Exercise
Created for my Online Pedagogy course (M.Ed.) and utilized in the GUID 150 class session I taught (guest lecture), these exercise sheets guide students through the exploration of resources to better understand their differences, potential uses, and more.

Brainstorm Activity
Created for my Instructional Design class (M.Ed.), this online activity for distance students taking LS 101 has students create a mind map of possible search terms for their chosen topic.

ENGL 111 Library Sessions
I created this exercise for use in the ENGL 111 one-shot sessions I taught during my library instruction internship in 2011.

GUID 150 Library Sessions
This worksheet is a modified version of the one used by a mentor librarian created during my library instruction internship in 2011. Sections 1 and 2 were based on the pre-existing worksheet, while the remaining sections were of my own creation.

Tutorial Handouts
These text-based handouts with screen shots guide users through 3 tasks: accessing The Economist online, Mango Languages, and Live Homework Help.

Anarchy! Class Handout
This handout was created for my Library User Instruction course (MLIS) and was distributed to Liz Dennison’s Anarchy! class.

Instruction Internship Handout
At the end of my Instruction Internship, I presented a “20 Minute Training” for Consortium Library faculty and staff outlining what I had learned from observing and teaching that semester. I distributed this handout summarizing my observations.
